About Don Lupe

A new kitchen in an old room.

The Valley Green Center has fed Route 151 for a long time. This is the newest chapter, and it is only a year old.

The room

Before this was Don Lupe it was Margaritas, "The Flavor of Mexico", for close to ten years, until it closed at the end of October 2023. Before that, Bistro 151, and before that Mossy Creek.

In the spring of 2025 a new sign went up and a co-owner told Blue Ridge Life the restaurant was "coming soon". The inside was completely gutted and renovated over the summer. On October 2, 2025, Don Lupe opened its doors.

The plate

The menu runs to 163 items: appetizers and the Don Lupe appetizer specials, salads, twenty-one specialties of the house, fajitas, tacos, nineteen combination dinners, a la carte, sides, and eleven lunch specials from $9.44. There is a full vegetarian and vegan section, with fajitas and a vegan burrito special.

Guests write about the handmade tortillas and the generous portions. One asked for nopales and was stoked to find them. Enchiladas Poblanas come with dark mole. The table salsa, one review says, is "chunky and better than most".

The bar

The first weeks had no beer, and the earliest review says so. That has changed: the county's tourism listing describes a full bar with a variety of margaritas, and the reviews since talk about the jalapeño margarita and the michelada.

The family

A word from the family.

Stand-in: this paragraph is written with the owners, in their words, at the first meeting. Nothing about who runs Don Lupe appears on any public surface today, and nothing here is invented to fill the gap.
